The President's Page

The St. Louis Police Officer’s Association recently completed their elections
and I would like to extend my congratulations to Sergeant Ron Oldani on being
chosen as the new President. I would also like to extend my best wishes to
outgoing President, Sergeant Gary Wiegert.
Our Organization is currently looking at the issue of Collective Bargaining. We
were advised that discussions have been taking place with other organizations
and the Mayor’s Office about reaching a collective bargaining agreement. This
issue is and should be of concern to us as a management group. While there is
currently no official position taken, I feel it is imperative that all
stakeholders be given the opportunity to meet and discuss its impact. This topic
certainly will be addressed at our Board of Director’s meeting this month.
The House and Senate have voted to override the Governor’s veto of the Concealed
Carry Weapons Law. This law takes effect this month. It goes without saying that
each of us should be conversing with our officers and encouraging them to be
mindful of their tactics. I would hope that we are already proceeding in a safe
and prudent manner and that this will have little impact upon the mindset and
approach we are taking.
The next legislative session is quickly approaching. I anticipate that we will
have several proposals that will be prioritized and submitted this year. We have
not heard of any proposals being submitted by other members or organizations at
this point and I hope to meet with Sergeant Oldani and his legislative staff to
see what commonalties we have. As always, we welcome input from our members and
affiliates.
If the organization or I can be of any assistance, please let me know. Be safe.
Sincerely,
Greg Wurm
President, SLPLO
